Neurodiversity – learning, understanding, flourishing

A conversation with Dr Amy Pearson

Dr Amy Pearson is Assistant Professor in Psychology at the Centre for Neurodiversity and Development, Durham University. Her academic research has a practical, real-world focus, as she explains:

'Autistic people are more likely to experience a range of poor outcomes (like mental health problems) compared to non-autistic people, but these outcomes aren’t inevitable.

'As an autistic Psychologist, I believe that it is possible for our community to thrive through increasing public and professional understanding and acceptance. I have been working with autistic people to learn more about their relationships, and what we can do to prevent experiences of violence and abuse and instead support flourishing.

'I hope that the work I do will lead to tangible changes in how we understand, and support, autistic people.'

The show about talking and listening better – at home, at work, everywhere

This is a regular online event featuring guests whose real-life experience highlights the power of talking and listening – in all its forms – to strengthen human connection and bridge divides.

And it's different from other talk shows, as everyone gets a chance to talk.

After the conversation with the guest, you – the audience – get to reflect on what you've heard in small breakout groups. And then we come back together to hear your thoughts and widen the conversation.

So be prepared to meet some new people!

The Talk Show is a free and open event, so please share this page with friends, family, colleagues – anyone you think might be interested.
